William Edward Hickey (born on September 19, 1927 and died on June 29, 1997) (69 years old) was an American actor. He was known for his role as Don Corrado Prizzi in 1985 John Huston’s film The Prizzi’s Honor, with which he was nominated for an Oscar Award.
Hickey was born in Brooklyn and was the son of Nora and Edward Hickey, who were of Irish descent. He had an older sister, Dorothy Finn. Hickey started acting on the radio in 1938.
Hickey has enjoyed a long and successful career in film, television and theater. In addition to his work as an actor, he was a respected master of the boat. Noted for his singular, grave voice and somewhat unconventional appearance, Hickey, in his later years, has often acted in roles of old and intelligent men, but of irritable character. His characters sometimes had a tendency towards the macabre.
Hickey died of emphysema and bronchitis in 1997. He is buried in the Evergreens Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. His latest film A tough little mouse (in which he plays the dying father of Nathan Lane and Lee Evans) was released six months after his death.
