His mentor Siegfried Sassoon was a clear influence on his shocking and crude poetry about the horrors of the First World War, which contrasted with the general perception of it. Among his best known works are “Anthem for Doomed Youth”, “Dulce Et Decorum Est”, “Insensibility”, “Strange Meeting”, “Futility” and “The Parable of the old man and the young”.
