Walter Wesley Hill better known as Walter Hill (Long Beach, January 10, 1942) is an American film director, screenwriter and producer, best known for his directed the cult movie The Warriors in 1979.
He was born on January 10, 1942 in Long Beach in the state of California, he has said in several interviews that as a child he suffered from asthma, which is why he had many problems to finish school, his grandfather was an oil driller , this would influence so that Walter Hill would later work on this work.
He lived and studied Art Studies in Mexico City at the Mexico City College . He worked in oil drilling and construction. Until 1968 he only made an incursion in the cinema like assistant of director in the film the case Thomas Crown (version of 1968). He was also assistant director that same year for the film Bullitt, and in Take the Money and Run (1969) was at the services of nothing more and nothing less than Woody Allen as his assistant.

Then he wrote The Getaway and Hickey and Boggs; these two scripts were taken to the cinema 1972, but his foray as director would only come in 1975 with Hard Times. In 1979 he writes and directs The Warriors; this film would become his most outstanding work and in a cult film in the United States, based on a book by Sol Yurick inspired by the Greek story of the Anabasis of Xenophon.
His passion has always been the Western Cinema and its fundamental reference is the work of John Ford, despite the fact that many of his successes are part of the detective cinema and comedy.
