Vitas (Russian: Витас, Odesa, Ukrainian SSR, February 19, 1979) is a Ukrainian pop singer, songwriter, fashion designer and actor of Ukrainian origin. It is best known by its first name Vitas , or Витас in Russian. His music, although pop, is influenced by techno, and sometimes, by classical opera.

Much of his fame is due to Russian television, but now he has had appearances in countries like China, the United States, Korea and Japan where he has also signed an agreement to expand into these markets. Thanks to videos like Opera # 2 (Опера 2), Lucia di Lammermoor, which had wide dissemination and acceptance on the Internet, has achieved great worldwide recognition.

Beginnings

His full name is Vitaliy Vladasovich Grachyov (Виталий Владасович Грачёв), was born on February 19, 1979 in Ukraine.

2000-2003: Ascent to fame

His first appearance in Russia was in December 2000, in the Christmas program “Christmas Meetings” with his success Opera # 2, during which his powerful countertenor voice could be appreciated.

On February 27, 2001, he presented his first concert “ Opera # … ” (Опера № …), in which he performed the songs that would be released in June of that same year, on his album “ Philosophy of a Miracle ” (Философия чуда).

On March 29, 2002 he presented the live concert “ Philosophy of a Miracle ” (Философия чуда) at the State Palace of the Kremlin, becoming the youngest singer to act in it. As a fashion designer, Vitas presented his collection “Autumn Dreams” on the same stage on September 29 of the same year.

The following year, he was invited by the composer “Lucio Dalla”, author of Caruso , to perform together this song in the presentation “San Remo in Moscow”. As a result of this performance Dalla also invited the singer to participate in a staging of the opera Tosca.

In March 2003 he offered 264 solo concerts in places like Russia, Australia, the United States, Canada, Israel, Germany, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Belarus, among others.

In November 2003, Vitas presented its second solo program called “ Songs of my Mother ” (Песни моей мамы) in the concert hall “RUSSIA” in Moscow. From that program, two albums were released: “Canciones de mi Madre” and “Mama” for its premiere. The first included the songs considered “gold reserves” (great hits) of Russian pop music. The other album, included only the new songs composed by Vitas.

2004-2006: Musical revelation and image

The album “A Long Kiss as Eternity” (Поцелуй Длиною В Вечность), released on October 8, 2004 had unprecedented sales in Russia, sold more than 2,000,000 copies in less than six months. The total number of CD sales during the period of creative activity of the singer exceeds 10 million.

Sergey Nickolaevich Poudovkin, his producer, signed a contract in August 2005 with the Taiwanese production company Avant Garden Records, who planned to release the album in Taiwan in September of that year. However, in November 2005, Poudovkin broke the contract without explanations, canceling the launch. During 2004 and 2005, Vitas became one of the most popular singers in Russia, conducting an important tour throughout the country. The premiere of “Canciones de mi Madre” was considered the musical event of the year.

The Poudovkin Producer Center organized an unprecedented tour with the “Songs of my Mother” program in Russia, the United States, Canada, Germany, Kazakhstan, Israel and the Baltic States during 2004 and 2006. Vitas offered more than 250 presentations with that program in 2004.

In June 2006, Vitas was invited by CCTV (China Central Television) to be part of the event “The Russian Year in China”, presented in Beijing. Vitas played two of his best-known songs, “Estrella” (Звезда) and “Opera # 2” (Опера №2).

2007-present

The premiere of “Homecoming” was presented in March 2007 on the Kosmos stage in Moscow. More than 20 new compositions of the singer were included in the premiere. Many of his new songs soon became fans’ favorites over the Internet such as “With the cry of the cranes”, “The Russian Coasts”, “I ask all the Saints”, “The little prince”, “I repeat your name “, among others.

In October 2007, Vitas signed a contract with the American production company “Gemini Sun Records”. This company has fully launched its DVDs and CDs previously released in the summer of 2008 in a new packaging and subtitles in Spanish and English.

He is currently working on his next album under the name “Light of a new day” Light of a new day in Spanish, has already released an appetizer of what will be this next album, one of the singles is “Lie Ciocarlie “who is in Romanian to conquer that market.
