Viswanathan Anand, popularly known as «Vishy», was born on December 11, 1969 in Mayiladuthurai, a small town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, but was raised in Madras. He is also the first world champion since Robert James Fischer, who did not come from one of the countries of what was the Soviet bloc.
