Victor Vasarely

Vásárhelyi Győző , known as Victor Vasarely (Pécs, Hungary, April 9, 1908 – Paris, France, March 15, 1997) was an artist to whom he has often been considered the father of op art. He started studying medicine in Hungary, but left the race after two years. He was then interested in abstract art and the school of Muheely (Bauhaus principles), founded in Budapest (Hungary) by a student of the Bauhaus. He was attracted to Mondrian and Malevich and became interested in astronomy.

He moved to Paris at the beginning of the 1930s and worked there as a graphic artist. In this city he develops his first major work, Zebra, which is considered today the first work of Op art. During the next two decades, Vasarely developed his own model of geometric abstract art, with optical effects of movement, antiquity of forms and perspectives, and unstable images. He used different materials but using a minimal number of shapes and colors. He had consideration for the measured, calm, rational and serene painting (networks, plots).

Despite this apparent monotony, it has a long evolution and various stages in its artistic production:
