Victor Vincent “Vic” Fuentes (San Diego, California, United States, February 10, 1983) is an American musician and singer, of Mexican descent, known for being a vocalist and guitarist of the post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil, along with his brother Mike and his companions Tony Perry and Jaime Preciado.

First years

Fuentes was born on February 10, 1983 in the city of San Diego, California, the son of Vivian and Victor Gamboa Fuentes, a former Mexican jazz musician who currently works as a painter, with a younger brother, Mike, two half brothers, David and Frank, and a half sister, Debbie, all of them fruits of his mother’s first marriage.It is a relative of musician Nick Martin, current guitarist of the band Sleeping with Sirens.

Fuentes learned to play the guitar at the age of seven, and attended San Diego State University to study graphic design, but abandoned it shortly after his band at that time, Before Today, signed an agreement. He wrote the song A Match Into Water for Pierce the Veil’s third album, Collide with the Sky, because his ex-girlfriend suffered from breast cancer. Curtis Peoples, co-author of the single King for a Day. Fuentes and Peoples played together in a band called 3 Simple Words during high school.

Career

In high school, Fuentes played in a local punk band called 3 Simple Words, along with his friend Curtis Peoples. In 1998, he formed a band called Early Times with his younger brother Mike. However, after releasing three EPs, the band was forced to change their name due to copyright infringement. The group changed its name to Before Today. After signing a contract with the label Equal Vision Records, the band released their only album, A Celebration of an Ending, in 2004, before separating two years later.

In 2006, the Fuentes brothers formed a band called Pierce the Veil. Bassist Jaime Preciado and guitarist Tony Perry joined the band a year later, in 2007. Pierce the Veil released their debut album A Flair for the Dramatic in January of that same year. The band released two more albums, Selfish Machines (2010) and Collide with the Sky (2012), and made a series of world tours in North America, South America, Australia, Asia and Europe. They have also played at major music festivals such as Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, the Reading and Leeds festivals, Warped Tour, Soundwave Festival and the Slam Dunk Festival. The band shared the stage with bands like Bring Me the Horizon, All Time Low, Sleeping with Sirens, Tonight Alive and A Day to Remember. Along with his brother Mike, Fuentes was involved in the super musical group, Isles & amp; Glaciers. After playing a show in 2009 and releasing an EP in 2010, the band broke up. Fuentes was also a guitarist on a band tour, Cinematic Sunrise.

Fuentes has written numerous songs, and has said he does not have a concept to write them, but is inspired by family situations, personal experiences, relationships on tour and friends. There are also songs that he wrote inspired by fans, such as Bulls in the Bronx, from the album Collide with the Sky, which was written after the suicide of teenager Olivia Penpraze in April 2012 due to bullying. Penpraze was a fan of the band, and his friends wrote a letter to the band telling them what happened.

The song I Do not Care If You Are Contagious, was also inspired by a fan. The band explained in an interview with Alternative Press that a girl contacted them through a letter, writing that her boyfriend had died in a car accident. Fuentes wrote the song as a gift for the girl. In turn, the song Million Dollar Houses (The Painter) was dedicated to Fuentes’s parents.
