Valentin Aleksandrovich “Val” Chmerkovskiy (Odessa, Odessa Oblast, March 24, 1986) is a Ukrainian-American professional ballroom dancer and choreographer, best known for his appearances in the American version of Dancing with the Stars, which he won in two seasons. Chmerkovskiy was a two-time Latin Dance world champion (junior and junior) and a 14-time Latin American national dance champion.
Val Chmerkovskiy’s Biography
Chmerkovskiy was born on March 24, 1986, in the Ukrainian city of Odessa, formerly the Soviet Union, whose parents are Aleksandr Chmerkovskiy and Larisa Chmerkovskaya. His older brother, Maksim Chmerkovskiy (born in 1980), is also a professional dancer who appears in Dancing with the Stars.
The family emigrated to Brooklyn in 1994. In 1996, Maksim and his father opened a dance studio in New Jersey and Valentin was one of the students. In 2001, Valentin and his partner Diana Olonetskaya, became the first American couple to win the junior world dance championship.
Val attended college at Pace University on the New York City campus, specializing in business administration.
