Ultravox is a band of English new wave emerged in 1976 that over time changed musical styles (glam rock, proto-punk, synth pop, new romantic and industrial music), until its definitive separation in 1996. In 2009, the band’s classic lineup in the 1980s, came together for a tour of the United Kingdom and another tour of the rest of Europe.
The band went through three stages, each one was distinguished by changes in musical genre and leader. From 1976 to 1979, the leader of the band was the singer John Foxx, who during his stay directed many changes of style to the group, but did not have great commercial success; from 1979 to 1988 he would be replaced by the guitarist Midge Ure, with whom the group had marked successes in Europe (among them the song “Vienna”); in 1992, after a brief separation, the keyboardist and violinist Billy Currie reformed the band with new members, but without great success, giving it finished in 1996. The first two leaders were never in the group at the same time.
Its massive popularity in Europe, during the 1980s, led it to be one of the most influential bands of electronic music.
