He was older brother of Qusay Hussein. Uday was considered as the possible successor of his father. After the invasion of Iraq in 2003 by the United States, he was killed along with his brother and son by special forces during a shootout in Mosul.

Uday produced the Babel newspaper and a local television channel called Al-Shabab TV. He was married to the daughter of Izzat Ibrahim ad-Douri, who was vice president and deputy chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council, but they divorced later.

Uday Hussein’s Biography

Uday Hussein was born in Baghdad on June 18, 1964, when his father was in prison. He graduated high school with high grades. He spent a few days at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Baghdad, but changed the race to Engineering and graduated from it, being the first in a class of 76 students. As his status as Saddam’s eldest son, he was considered a successor. In October 1988, at a party in honor of Suzanne Mubarak, the wife of then-President of Egypt Hosni Mubarak, killed the personal valet of his father Kamel Hana Gegeo, possibly at the request of his mother. Before, in a show of horrible gestures, a drunk Uday wounded Gegeo and made the coup de grace with an electric shock. Gegeo had recently introduced Saddam to a young woman, Samira Shabandar, who would later become his second wife; Uday considered her relationship with her father as an insult to her mother. Mubarak called Saddam’s son a psychopath.

As a punishment for the crime, Saddam Hussein imprisoned his son briefly. The original sentence was for 8 years; probably Uday was 3 months in a private prison. In response to the personal intervention of King Hussein of Jordan, his father sent Uday to Switzerland as the assistant Iraqi ambassador to the European country. The Swiss government expelled him after an incident, in which he got involved, in a restaurant.

Later he was named leader of the Iraqi Olympic Committee (COIrq), of the football federation and subsequently the head of one of the security organizations. In the previous post he tortured athletes who could not win. Uday was called abu sarhan, wolf in Arabic. He was wounded during an assassination attempt in December 1996. Eight bullets went through his Porsche car and he was initially paralyzed; He was sent to the Ibn Sina Hospital where he had several operations and a bullet that had been left in his spine was removed, being located near the spine. In the wave of subsequent disaffiliations, Saddam increased the responsibility and authority of Qusay, Uday’s brother, officially designating him as his successor in 2000.

Uday opened accounts on Yahoo! and MSN Messenger, creating controversy when in the content of the accounts it alleged to violate the economic sanctions of the United States against Iraq. He owned a large collection of videos, found in his palace in 2003 by US Marines, many of whom recorded his public side and private life.
