Michael Trent Reznor (Mercer, Pennsylvania, May 17, 1965) is an American musician, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He founded and leads the band Nine Inch Nails and belonged to others such as Option 30, Exotic Birds and Tapeworm, among others. In 2007, Reznor ended his recording contract with Interscope Records, becoming an independent artist. He is considered one of the most acclaimed creative figures of his musical generation.
Reznor’s first release as Nine Inch Nails, Pretty Hate Machine, was a commercial success and has since released several studio albums and singles. He has worked with David Bowie, Adrian Belew, Saul Williams and Marilyn Manson (considered by many to be Reznor’s protégé). Michael Trent Reznor was born on May 17, 1965 in Mercer, Pennsylvania. At the age of five he began to take piano lessons, to then learn by himself to play the tuba and the saxophone. His parents divorced in 1970 and Reznor was raised by his grandparents In an interview in 1995, his grandfather Bill Clark remarked, “Music was his life, from the time he was a little boy, he had a gift.” Reznor has said in interviews that he hated his training and that he was very bored with the lonely and peaceful area where he was raised. Most of the time, Reznor was isolated from other children. He said he did not fit. Nor was there much access to radio and television, however that was his only escape once he entered the alternative rock scene from the 70s and onwards.
