Daniel Thomas ‘Tommy’ Mottola (born July 14, 1949) is a music industry entrepreneur in the United States and co-owner of the record company Casablanca Records, in a joint venture with Universal Music Group, is also the ex-husband of the singer Mariah Carey and current husband of the Mexican singer and actress Thalía. He led Sony Music Entertainment, one of the parents of the Columbia label, for almost 15 years, Tommy Mottola is a well-known businessman, famous for being the head of Sony America Corp.
In addition to his experience in the management of music ensembles, Mottola is known as a mentor and ex-talent manager. His most famous proteges were Hall & amp; Oates, Carly Simon, John Mellencamp, Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band, Diana Ross, and Taylor Dayne in the 70s and 80s, Mariah Carey (his second wife) in the 1990s and Jennifer Lopez in early 2000. Thalia (his third wife) and Tommy have celebrated the birth of 2 children together, Sabrina Sakae and Matthew Alejandro in 2007 and 2011 respectively.
Mottola was born in the Bronx, New York, and attended Iona High School in New Rochelle, New York, graduating in 1967. He briefly attended Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York before the desertion. Mottola had aspirations of a musical career, and released with CBS Records, but his career was short-lived.
Mottola started Champion Entertainment Inc., an organization for the management of other artists.
