Thomas “Tommy” Lee Bass (October 3, 1962) is an American hard rock and heavy metal drummer. He is popular for being the drummer of the band Mötley Crüe.

Tommy Lee’s Biography

Thomas Lee Bass was born in Athens (Greece) into a middle-class family. His father, David Oliver Bass (soldier of the US Army) met his mother, Vassiliki Papadimitriou (Miss Greece in 1957) and asked her for marriage the same day he met her. A year after Tommy was born, the family moved to California, United States. Since childhood, Tommy had always wanted to stand out and get everyone’s attention. And for him, silence meant “death,” because his parents used to ignore him as punishment. In addition, over the years, because his parents communicated most of the time through drawings because his mother barely spoke English, he began to develop a certain sympathy for tattoos, eventually getting almost completely tattooed.

As for his musical career, Tommy started by studying piano and guitar. His father made sure that he learned the scales and read scores. Subsequently, Tommy realized that what really excited him was the percussion. He started playing in the kitchen of his house, with a few pots and pans. A year later, his parents encouraged him to work to buy a battery. In this way they taught him that things have a price and that with effort everything can be achieved. His first musical tastes were bands like Kiss, Aerosmith, Queen, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest. His career began in the band Suite 19, with which he performed some performances. It was at that moment when he met bassist Nikki Sixx. Soon after, guitarist Mick Mars and vocalist Vince Neil joined them to form the hit glam metal band: Mötley Crüe.

His first wife was model Elaine Margaret Starchuk . They married on November 24, 1984 and divorced a year later, in 1985.

His second marriage was with the actress Heather Locklear in 1986. Tommy was very much in love and even wanted them to have children. But she always refused, backing up on excuses about her work and saying she did not want to have children in such an early relationship. After his divorce in 1993, Tommy announced that he was really upset with Heather because she had become pregnant as soon as she started dating another man. Tommy always thought that Heather did not want to have children with someone like him and that bothered him deeply.

His third and last marriage was with Pamela Anderson in 1995, only 96 hours after he met her. With her he had the children he had wanted so much: Brandon (06/05/96) and Dylan (12/29/97). Although the couple divorced in 1998, a few months after Tommy was released from prison, the couple returned but in 2001 they separated again. In 2008, they reconciled and broke again.

Mötley Crüe

Mötley Crüe quickly built a loyal fan base, since the release of the album Too Fast For Love in 1981, under the independent label Leathür Records. Elektra Records decided to sign with the band, and released the album again in 1982. From that moment, the band dominated the market, especially in the United States, with the albums Shout at the Devil (1983), Theater of Pain (1985), Girls, Girls, Girls (1987) and Dr. Feelgood (1989). The band was recognized for its decadent behavior, on and off the stage, sometimes reaching excess in the use of drugs and alcohol. The song “Kickstart My Heart” refers to a drug incident in which Nikki Sixx almost lost her life.

Solo race and meeting with Mötley Crüe

Tommy Lee decided to move away from the band in 1999. He was replaced by Ozzy Osbourne’s former drummer, Randy Castillo. Taking advantage of the popularity of rap metal, Lee formed a band called Methods of Mayhem. They released an album the same year and went on tour. He also participated in albums by artists such as Stuart Hamm, Nine Inch Nails and Rob Zombie.

In August 2002, Tommy Lee and his band performed at the Ozzfest festival on the main stage. He formed a new band called Rock Star Supernova with Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica) and Gilby Clarke (ex-Guns N ‘Roses). Rock Star Supernova released their debut album in November 2006.

In 2004, Lee met with the original Mötley Crüe line-up for the release of the double disc Red, White & amp; Crüe, accompanied by a monumental tour.
