Thomas William Selleck (Detroit, Michigan, January 29, 1945), better known as Tom Selleck , is an American actor, screenwriter and producer. Winner of several awards, including the Golden Globe and the Emmy, his most famous role is the main character of the television series Magnum P.I. (Magnum private investigator).

Tom Selleck’s Biography

Selleck was born in Detroit in 1945. His parents were Robert Selleck (a Slovak immigrant, who died in 2001) and his wife, Martha. As a child, his family moved to Sherman Oaks. Tom has two brothers and a sister: Robert (born 1944), Daniel (born 1950) and Martha. Tom graduated from Grant High School (Los Angeles, California) in 1962.

He attended the University of Southern California with a basketball scholarship and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. One of his teachers suggested that he dedicate himself to acting. Following the advice, he studied at the Beverly Hills Playhouse under the supervision of Milton Katselas.

Selleck served in the California National Guard and also in the army during the Watts Riots.

Selleck began his career with small roles in different films, such as the controversial comedy about transsexuality Myra Breckinridge (with a heterogeneous cast that included Mae West, John Huston, Raquel Welch and a debutant Farrah Fawcett) and The Seven Minutes, Russ Meyer. He also appeared in some series, miniseries and telefilms. Selleck also had a role as Lance White in The Rockford Files, a television drama of the seventies.

Ironically, and after years of little interest in acting, he was called to act in Magnum, P.I. and to play Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark in the same year. The producers of Magnum, P.I. they did not let the actor film the initial movie of the Indiana Jones saga, so the role of adventurer fell to Harrison Ford.

He starred in the 1979 telefilm Concrete Cowboy with Jerry Reed. He also starred in several films before and after Magnum; Among the actor’s most notable roles are a detective in Runaway (1984), a father by force in Three Men and a Baby (1987), Monte Walsh (2003), Crossfire Trail (2001) and an American cowboy in the Australian Quigley Down Under (1990). Other films include Three Men and a Little Lady (1990), High Road to China (1983), Lassiter (1984), Her Alibi in 1989, along with model Paulina Porizkova, An Innocent Man (1989) that houses one of her best performances, Folks! (1992), Christopher Columbus: The Discovery (1992), Mr. Baseball (1992), In & amp; Out (1997) and The Love Letter (1999).
