Thomas Cavanagh (Ottawa, Ontario, October 26, 1963) is a Canadian actor, producer and composer. He has participated in the series Scrubs and co-starred in the movie The Mess of Gray. He is known for his portrayal of Dr. Harrison Wells in the series The Flash.

Cavanagh was born in Ottawa, Ontario. He is of Irish descent and comes from a family with a long Catholic tradition.Cavanagh moved with his family to Winneba, a small town in Ghana, when he was seven years old. In his teens, the family moved to Lennoxville (Quebec) where he started high school. He presided over the Seminar of Sherbrooke, in which he studied the French language and played basketball for the Barons. Later he studied at Champlain College in Lennoxville at the CEGEP level.

Cavanagh is bilingual, able to speak fluent French and English. While at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, he became interested in theater, music, and played ice hockey and, on some occasions, basketball. He graduated with distinction in English and biology.
