Timothy M. “Tim” Gunn (born July 29, 1953) is an American image consultant and television host. She directed the chair of fashion design at Parsons The New School for Design from August 2000 to March 2007, and then joined Liz Claiborne as its director of creativity. He is recognized as the mentor to the designers on the television show Project Runway. The popularity of Gunn in Project Runway led him to have his own program, Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style, in addition to his book, A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style.
Gunn was born in Washington, D.C. His father was an FBI agent under the command of J. Edgar Hoover, Gunn was a swimming champion during his time in high school, and later attended the Corcoran University of Art and Design, where he received a degree in sculpture He joined Parsons The New School for Design in 1982 and worked as Associate Dean between 1989 and 2000; in August 2000 he became head of his department. It is recognized for its “remodeling and improvement of the curriculum for the 21st century.”

Gunn is the mentor to the designers in the Project Runway program since his first season in 2004, and is known for his phrases “Make it work” and “Carry on”. Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style, a reality show in which Gunn gives advice on fashion, debuted on September 6, 2007 on the television channel Bravo.
Gunn also played himself as a reporter on the fictional show Fashion TV on the ABC television series Ugly Betty on February 1, 2008 and February 8, 2007 and as Barney’s personal tailor in several episodes of How i met your mother.
Gunn partnered with Liz Claiborne as the company’s chief creative officer in March 2007.
In April 2007, Abrams Image Publishers published Gunn’s book A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style, co-written with Kate Moloney. On a tour of Palm Springs, California, the city of Palm Desert decorated him with an official resolution declaring April 27, 2007 (the day of his visit) as “Timothy M. Gunn’s Day”. He also received a certificate from the city and a Rancho Mirage plaque in recognition of the achievements of his career.
Gunn lives in New York: In an interview in 2006 with Instinct magazine he stated that he had not been in a relationship since the abrupt end of a six-year relationship, and that he was still in love with his former partner .
