Tim Bergling (Stockholm, Sweden, September 8, 1989), better known by his stage name Avicii (stylized as ◢ ◤ or ΛVICII ), is a Swedish DJ, producer, and remixer, and is the creator of some successes of the last decade such as Wake Me Up, Hey Brother, Addicted to You, Broken Arrows, For a Better Day, Fade Into Darkness, The Days, The Nights, Waiting For Love, Seek Bromance, You Make Me and, especially, Levels, which, despite taking nine months to be recognized, managed to make the DJ famous and successful.

His single Bromance (recorded and put on sale under the pseudonym “Tim Berg”) managed to enter the top 20 of the Netherlands and his native Sweden. A version called Seek Bromance with Amanda Wilson, was put on sale soon after, reaching the UK Singles Chart and reaching the # 1 international position in Beatport. Later it sent several singles like Fade Into Darkness, (that contains the samples of Perpetuum Mobile), My Feelings for You, Street Dancer and Tweet It, among others. His worldwide recognition would come in 2011, when he sampled the original 1962 gospel music song, “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” by Etta James in his hit Levels, which made it into the most important music charts in the world and obtained numerous certifications. In that same year Avicii would found his own label called LE7ELS.

In 2013, he got his first number one in the UK thanks to I Could Be the One, a co-production with Dutch DJ Nicky Romero, and in June 2013 he released the single “Wake Me Up!” with the voice of American singer Aloe Blacc, reaching number one in more than 30 countries, including the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia, Spain and Argentina, this was the first single from his debut album titled True, released on September 13, 2013. Simple songs such as “You Make Me” and “Hey Brother” followed, with the latter coming first in countries such as Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands.

In 2010, Avicii managed to position itself in 39th place in DJmag’s list of the 100 best DJs. The 2011 he smiled at Avicii; the young producer was consolidated as the sixth best DJ in the world. In 2012 he managed to climb three places to occupy the third, staying in the same until 2013, although in 2014 he returns to sixth place, and for 2015 he falls a position remaining in the seventh.

On June 13, 2015 he made a special presentation at the royal wedding of Prince Charles Felipe of Sweden and Sofia Cristina of Sweden, held in Stockholm. At the end of the same year Avicii participated in YouTube Rewind making a remix of the most listened to songs of the year including a fragment of his single Broken Arrows; song that is in his most recent album Stories.

On March 29, 2016, he unexpectedly announced his retirement from the stage for an indefinite period of time, which took place in Ibiza (Spain) on August 28 following the performance of his last show in Ibiza. Currently off the stage, Avicii is ranked 28 in the list of the 100 best Djs made in 2017 by the annual DjMag survey

Avicii was born on September 8, 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden. His birth name is Tim Bergling; although he is known professionally as Avicii and Tim Berg, among other nicknames.

Musical career

He emerged in the music industry in 2008, when he was 18, when he remixed the Commodore 64 video game song, Lazy Jones. This produced his first sale with Strike Recordings, under the title of Lazy Lace. In April of 2008, Avicii published its first own production, Manman, by Pete Tong’s record label, Bedroom Bedlam, after winning the contest, “Fast Trax.” Avicii received 70% of the votes and after the launch contacted numerous labels, promoters and booking agencies around the world. In 2010, Avicii published another sale together with the Swedish DJ named John Dahlbäck, entitled Do not Hold Back, under the alias Jovicii. He also worked with other well-known producers in the electronic scene such as Dutch Nicky Romero and Shermanology or Frenchmen Norman Doray and Sebastien Drums, etc. Although his work focuses on electronic songs, EMI put on sale a version with vocals of his song Bromance, with the title Seek Bromance.

In October 2010, Avicii signed a contract with the European label EMI Music Publishing. With London and New York, EMI is the fourth largest music company and is a producer of other companies, this makes it occupy that fourth position and makes it a member of the RIAA.

On January 25, Avicii partnered again with Coldplay to co-produce her single “Hymn for the Weekend,” which was released as the second single from her album A Head Full of Dreams. In 2016, according to a report by Inc. magazine, Avicii was the sixth fastest growing company in Europe, with revenues of 7.7 million euros in 2014.

Withdrawal from scenarios

On March 29, Avicii announced via Facebook that he would retire from the stage at the end of his 2016 tours.

Through an extensive statement published on his Facebook account and on his website, Tim Bergling announced that his concerts scheduled for 2016 will be the last.

In December 2016, after separating from his representative, Ash Pournouri, Tim announced that his third studio album would be released in 2017. He also uploaded an image to his Instagram account on New Year’s Eve, wishing a good year to his followers and proposing to create the best album of his career.

2017: AVĪCI

On August 10, 2017, after more than a year of inactivity, Avicii released a 6 song EP on YouTube and Spotify. Days before the release, the producer had shown advancements of the songs through his social networks and revealed that he would have the collaboration of AlunaGeorge. The EP titled AVĪCI also has the collaborations of Rita Ora, Sandro Cavazza and others.
