Tia Carrere (Honolulu, Hawaii, January 2, 1967) is an American actress, model and singer. She was noted for the role of treasure hunter Sydney Fox, in the television series Relic Hunter (Cazatesoros), co-produced by Canada and the United Kingdom, and in which she shares cast with Christien Anholt.

Born with the name of Althea Rae Duhinio Janairo , Carrere, with Filipino, Chinese and Spanish ancestry, participated at age 17 in the 1985 edition of the Star Search program-contest, of which she was eliminated in the first round. Following the program, she was recognized by a film producer while shopping with her parents at a vegetable shop in Waikīkī; she is hired to participate in a B-movie: Zombie Nightmare.

Thanks to his initial success, Carrere moved to Los Angeles, where after working several months as a model, he landed a role in the daily soap opera General Hospital, between 1985 and 1987. During this time, he also appeared in the series Tour of Duty and The A-Team; The latter was to join, but finally had to resign due to his obligations to General Hospital. His character only appeared in one chapter and was never mentioned again.

Carrere also appeared in the series MacGyver (in the role of an attractive karate instructor), Mystery for three and Married with children; also in the film Dos duros sobre ruedas (1991).

For the general public, Carrere became known in the role of Cassandra, a rock singer and the love of the character of Mike Myers, in Wayne’s World (1992), a role she repeated the following year in Wayne’s World 2 Singer with formation, Carrere interpreted all his songs in both films; he even rejected a role in the Baywatch series to prepare his role in the first of the films.

On November 22, 1992, Carrere married Italo-Lebanese producer Elie Samaha; She participated in several of the films produced by her husband, none of which achieved great success. Other roles, after those of the saga of Wayne, have been the one of the evil Juno Skinner, in True Lies (1994, next to Arnold Schwarzenegger); the betrayer Gina Walker, in The Immortals (1995), and Professor Victoria Chapell, in Learn How You Can (1996).

From 1999 to 2002, Tia Carrere played the role of the archeology professor Sydney Fox, in Relic Hunter (Cazatesoros), a series of adventures reminiscent of Indiana Jones; the series was aired for three seasons until its cancellation. More recently, Carrere lent his voice to the character of Nani, Lilo’s sister in the animated film Lilo & amp; Stitch (2002) and its sequels, and Queen Tyr’ahnee in the animated series Duck Dodgers (2003).

Carrere appeared nude in the January 2003 issue of Playboy magazine; Years ago, he had used a body double in the recording of a scene with nude in the film Little Tokyo: frontal attack. People magazine included it in its list of the 50 most beautiful people in the world (1992).

Parallel to his cinematographic career, Carrere has continued working in his musical career. In 1993 he released his first album, Dream, which became a platinum record in the Philippines. That same year he participated in the soundtrack of Batman: the mask of the ghost, interpreting the closing theme of the film, “I Never Even Told You”. In August 2003, Carrere received the award for her entire career from the president of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Carrere divorced her first husband in February 2000, and she married again, this time with journalist Simon Wakelin, on December 31, 2002. They have a daughter, Bianca, born on September 25, 2005. In 2010, Carrere divorced her second husband; they both share custody of Bianca.

Participated as a contestant in the reality show Dancing with the Stars, but was eliminated on February 3, 2006, after having fallen more than once during his performance. He was awarded the Grammy Award twice for the albums’ Ikena (2009) and Huana Ke Aloha (2011).

Currently, Carrere lives in Toronto, Canada.
