The Pointer Sisters , soul group formed in 1971 in Oakland, California, by sisters Bonnie Pointer, June Pointer, Anita Pointer and Ruth Pointer. Since they were young they were influenced by the gospel and soul of The Staple Singers, Aretha Franklin and The Andrews Sisters. In 1971 they signed with Blue Thumb Records. His first single with some success was “Yes We Can Can”, a version of a song by Allen Toussaint in 1973. Two years later they reached number one with the track “How Long (Betcha ‘Got a Chick on the Side)” . In 1978 Bonnie Pointer was signed by Motown, achieving hits like “Free Me From My Freedom” and “Tie Me to a Tree (Handcuff Me)”. Anita Pointer and June Pointer also tried to remain solo during the 80s, but they did not succeed. In 1979, being a trio and not a quartet, they made their own version of “Fire” by Bruce Springsteen, taking an address on the Planet label with which they left aside soul to enter the urban, with songs like “He’s So Shy “(1980),” Slow Hand “(1981),” Automatic “(1984) and” Jump (For My Love) “(1984). One of his greatest hits was released in 1982, in the album “So excited”, and that was called “I’m so excited”. As their sound changed during the late 80’s, the group began to decline. Since the early 90’s the group only made sporadic appearances. In 1995 they returned to the present with the musical of Fats Waller “Is not Misbehavin ‘”. Throughout his entire career they won three Grammy awards.
