The Durutti Column

The Durutti Column is a post-punk band formed in Great Manchester in 1978 by the guitarist Vini Reilly and the founders of Factory Records, Tony Wilson and Alan Erasmus. The band was always associated with Factory, being one of the first groups that signed with it and its boss and founder, Wilson, who was its representative for many years.

The style of the band integrates elements of jazz, folk, classical music and rock, always supported by the unique and characteristic sound of Reilly’s guitar.

Vini Reilly has been the only permanent member of the group, playing as guitarist, occasional pianist and, almost always, singer. Since the 1980s, the band is composed of Bruce Mitchell on drums. Other current members are Keir Stewart, on bass, keyboards and harmonica, and Poppy Morgan, on piano.
