The Cure Short Bio

The Cure [ðə kjːə] (also known as Cure ) is a British rock band formed in 1976 in Crawley, England. band was called Easy Cure for a brief period; there was already one of his three founders and future leader, Robert Smith, as a solo guitarist. 1] His career began in the late seventies. The group reached the highest level of popularity at the beginning of the nineties, but during the next two decades its production was in decline.

During his long career, The Cure has ventured into different genres and styles, such as post-punk, in some of his first songs like “Another day” or “In your house”; the gothic rock, in subjects like «One hundred years» and «A forest»; British new wave music, cheerful and optimistic, on tracks like “Close to me” or “Friday I’m in love”, and even for several electronic moments, such as “The walk” or “Let’s go to bed” Considered one of the groups referring to alternative rock.

The Cure has had multiple formations. The most stable was the one integrated between 1985 and 1988 by the guitarist Robert Smith, the bassist Simon Gallup, the drummer Boris Williams, the keyboardist Laurence Tolhurst and the guitarist Porl Thompson. In 1989 he published what is considered his masterpiece, Disintegration, disc with which the band reached its highest position in the British charts with the single “Lullaby”, which was placed in fifth place for six consecutive weeks. / p>

Smith’s characteristic appearance, often dressed in black and made up with a blotched effect of lipstick, coupled with introspective and existential lyrics, has made the band generally associated with gothic rock. However, Smith denied this categorization, as well as framing the group in a single musical genre saying during an interview in 2006: “It’s so sad that The Cure is still called Gothic. […] We are not categorizable. I guess we were post-punk when we left, but globally it’s impossible to categorize ourselves. […] I play music from The Cure, whatever that means ».

In 2007, Smith won the Ivor Novello Prize, and in 2009 he received on behalf of the group the Godlike Genius Award, granted by the publication NME. [11] Until 2013, The Cure has published 13 studio albums, 34 simple and numerous compilations and reissues. The band was nominated in 1993 and in 2001 to the Grammy in the category of best alternative music record. [12] [13] [14] Between 1978 and 2004, The Cure sold around 30 & nbsp; millions of records in all the world. [15]
