His real name was Owen John Scott, and he was born in Watford, England. He studied at the Watford Field Junior School and the Watford Grammar School for Boys. Later he studied accounting and served in the Royal Navy during World War II. Along with Bill Maynard he performed at the Butlin Holiday Camp in Skegness, and also worked with him on the television series “Great Scott, It’s Maynard!”. In the early 1960s he became well known among viewers thanks to his role with Hugh Lloyd in the show Hugh and I. Scott later starred with Lloyd in the 1969 sitcom The Gnomes of Dulwich.

Scott is best remembered for starring in several seasons of the comedy Happy Ever After, as well as his successor, Terry and June. Along with his co-star, June Whitfield, he also participated in the film version of Bless This House.

Scott made a small role in the first film of the Carry On film series, Carry On Sergeant, in 1958. In 1968 he returned to the series with a role in Carry On Up the Khyber (1968), playing first roles in six of the movies.

He recorded an album, “My Brother” (written by Mitch Murray), which aired regularly on the BBC radio station (in particular on the Ed Stewart show “Junior Choice.” Then, in the 1980s, Scott gave voice to the character of Penfold the hamster in the cartoon series Danger Mouse.

Terry Scott had health problems for many years. In 1979 he was operated on to life or death after suffering a hemorrhage. He was also affected by paralysis, having to wear a collar, even on television. When Terry and June was suppressed in 1987, Scott suffered a nervous breakdown. The attack was partly due to his public confession of having had extramarital affairs while he was married to the former dancer Maggie Pollen, with whom he married in 1957 and with whom he had four daughters.

Scott died of cancer in 1994, in Godalming, England.
