Abdul-Wahad has the honor of being the first basketball player born and raised in France to play in the NBA. During its university stage it participated with Michigan and later it was transferred to San Jose State where it emphasized like a great anotador. In the 1997 season he was selected in the NBA draft by Sacramento Kings in the first round (number 11). Abdul-Wahad officially changed his name from Olivier Saint-Jean on November 10, 1997.
