Sushil Koirala (in Nepali: सुशील कोइराला, District of Morang, Nepal, August 12, 1939-Kathmandu, February 9, 2016) was a Nepalese politician, member of the Nepalese Congress, of which he was secretary general, vice president and since 2010 president. After his victory in the parliamentary elections of 2013 he was Prime Minister of Nepal from February 11, 2014 until October 12, 2015.
Sushil Koirala’s Biography
It was the family of the Prime Ministers of Nepal, Matrika Prasad Koirala, Girija Prasad Koirala and Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala.
Sushil Koirala, entered the world of politics in 1954, inspired by his social democratic ideals entered as a member of the political party Nepalese Congress. After the restoration of the absolute monarchy in Nepal in 1960, he went into exile in India where he spent 16 years there and was 3 years in prison for his involvement in the hijacking of a plane in 1973. During the years he spent in India he was editor of Tarun, the official newsletter of the Nepalese Congress. In 1976 he returned to Nepal and three years later in 1979 he became a member of the Central Labor Committee of the party, in 1996 he was appointed General Secretary, in 1998 Vice President and finally after several years holding various positions in 2010 he was elected as President, being reelected as president after the General Convention of the party.
During his candidacy for the Nepalese Congress to the 2013 Nepalese Parliamentary Elections held on November 19, the party for the first time won its largest number of votes in history with a total of 196 seats, winning the electoral victory by defeating to the Communist Party of Nepal and the Unified Communist Party of Nepal After the approval of his new appointment by the other opposition parties in the National Parliament it became from February 11, 2014 the new Prime Minister of Nepal Nepal, succeeding Khil Raj Regmi and entering the government with President Ram Baran Yadav and Vice President Parmananda Jha.
