Stephen Glenn “Steve” Martin (Waco, August 14, 1945) is an American actor, comedian, musician, film producer, screenwriter and writer. It has a long and successful career in all genres. In 2013 he received the Honorary Oscar.
Steve Martin’s Biography
He was born on August 14, 1945 in Waco (Texas), although he spent his childhood in Orange County (California). When he was a student, he worked at Disneyland (in the magic shop that is located in Main Street USA) and at Knott’s Berry Farm, and then began to study philosophy, a career that he abandoned when in the mid-sixties he got fully involved in the show business His first steps were as a scriptwriter, work with which he won an Emmy Award for the famous musical comedy The Smother Brothers’ Comedy Hours, starring Tom and Dick Smothers.
Already settled in the world of the show, his popularity increased when he presented Saturday Night Live. By the mid-seventies he had already launched his musical career with songs from his comedies, for which he won a Grammy Award for best comedy album.
In 1979 he made his film debut in a film written by himself, The Jerk, which starred with his first great love of the show, Bernardette Peters. This comedy was directed by Carl Reiner, with whom he established a successful working relationship, with renowned films such as Dead Customer Does not Pay (1982) and Sweet Home … sometimes! (from 1984), among others.
Already by the eighties came its first super-successes, with Roxanne at the head, an adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac taken to the movies by Fred Schepisi. Another of the most important films was Tres amigos, which starred with great comedians such as Chevy Chase and Martin Short. Another of his most important tasks was directing the ceremonies of the Oscar Awards in 2001, 2003 and 2010 along with Alec Baldwin, his co-star of the film It’s Complicated. His last successes he achieved with Cheaper by the Dozen 1 and 2.
Steve Martin is also a prominent writer, as he has published several renowned books, some of them taken to the movies and starring himself, as Shopgirl. He is currently in full production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile.
In December 2012, he became a father but the news was surprisingly revealed on February 12, 2013.
