Steven Robert Guttenberg (Brooklyn, New York, United States, August 24, 1958), better known as Steve Guttenberg , is an American actor and comedian. He became internationally famous during the 1980s, after his roles in Cocoon, Three Men and a Baby, Crazy Police Academy and Short Circuit.
Career as an actor
His studies, during which he spent some years with Professor Herbert Berghof and at the comedy improvisation school The Groundlings, led him to perform in theaters such as Helen Hayes (Broadway), where he had the lead role in Prelude to to Kiss and The Comedy in the West End of London, where he also starred in The Boys Next Door. He congratulated himself on the production of the world premiere of Furthest From the Sun, directed and co-starring Woody Harrelson. Guttenberg also appeared frequently on television. His television films include the critically acclaimed Miracle on Ice (1981), To Race the Wind (1980), Something for Joey (1977) and the controversial film about the nuclear holocaust The Day After (1983), which, more than twenty years after its original broadcast, it is still the movie made for the most valued television in history. [quote required] Before becoming known, Guttenberg played the lead role in the short-lived 1979 sitcom series Billy: a teenage boy with a complex Walter Mitty. In 1980 he starred in a Coca-Cola ad in which his character tried to help a non-English-speaking woman whose car had been set. They share a common bond in their love for Coca-Cola.
Guttenberg appeared in three films made up of sequels: Loca police academy (1984), Cocoon (1985) and Three men and a baby (1986). Also it has appeared in some films like Diner (1982), False witness (1987), The Boys from Brazil (1978) and Cortocircuito (1986). He also starred in It Takes Two with Kirstie Alley and the Olsen twins.
Although Guttenberg is known for his work as an actor in several films, his roots lie in the theater. His first film as a director, producer and co-screenwriter was an adaptation of a Broadway hit, the comedy drama Your Cat Is Dead, by James Kirkwood, Jr.
Guttenberg had a role in the second season of the television series Veronica Mars as Woody Goodman, a wealthy businessman and leader of a community. He also appeared in the television movie The Adventure of the Poseidon, remake released in 2005, playing Richard Clarke, a writer who had an affair with a physiotherapist.
He recently had a role as Barry in Mojave Phone Both and as Trafton in Making Change. In Single Santa Mrs. Clause and its sequel Meet the Santas played the role of Nick. Guttenberg is working on a movie with Jessica Simpson called Major Movie Star.
The sixth edition of the Golden Wagon Film Festival honored Steve Guttenberg with the 2008 Tony Randall Lifetime Archievement Award for his work in the entertainment industry as well as his numerous and generous services to the community. The Tony Randall Lifetime Archievement Award was created as a tribute to the first Golden Wagon honoree, Tony Randall. The award is given to the entertainment industry member who embodies the same love for Fire Island, independent spirit and community service that Tony Randall shared.
