Stephen Hawking Short Bio

Stephen William Hawking ( pronunciation in English: & nbsp; / stiːvən_hɔːkɪŋ / & nbsp; (listen) ; Oxford, January 8, 1942) is a theoretical physicist, astrophysicist, cosmologist and British scientific popularizer. His most important works to date have been to contribute, along with Roger Penrose, theorems regarding spatiotemporal singularities within the framework of general relativity, and the theoretical prediction that black holes would emit radiation, which is known today in day as Hawking radiation (or sometimes Bekenstein-Hawking radiation).

He is a member of the Royal Society of London, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of the United States. He was the head of the Lucasiana Chair of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge from 1979 until his retirement in 2009. Among the many distinctions that have been granted, Hawking has been honored with twelve honorary doctorates and has been awarded with the Order of the British Empire (CBE degree) in 1982, the Prince of Asturias Award for Concord in 1989, the Copley Medal in 2006, the Medal of Freedom in 2009 and the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in 2015.

Hawking suffers from a motor neuron disease related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that has worsened his condition over the years, almost completely paralyzed him and forced him to communicate through a voice generator. . He has been married twice and has had three children. For his part, he has achieved sales success with his informative works on Science, in which he discusses his own theories and cosmology in general; these include A Brief History of Time, which was on the British Sunday Times best-seller list for 237 weeks ..
