Ricky Walters (born June 30, 1965, better known by his artistic names Rick Slick , MC Ricky and > Rick the Ruler ), is an Old School rap rapper.

Originally from Mitcham, London, England, he moved with his family to the Bronx neighborhood in 1975 when he met B-Weezy, who taught him how to rap.

Rick’s signature patch became necessary after he was injured and lost his eye as a result of the impact of a broken glass in his childhood.

He is well known for a series of recordings in the 1980s, including the hits “La Di Da Di” and “Children’s Story,” the latter can be heard eventually in the game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in the Playback FM station.

Once he reached a certain level of wealth, he earned a reputation for always wearing huge amounts of jewelry in gold and diamonds, including several necklaces with giant medals, bracelets, huge rings on each finger and a gold tooth. It could be considered the precedent of bling bling culture in Hip-Hop.

Slick Rick’s Biography

In 1991, Slick Rick faced several charges for attempted murder and his cousin, whom he had hired as a bodyguard, admitted later that he had seen Walters shoot a person at the exit of a club.

Slick Rick was indicted on two counts of attempted murder and convicted of all charges that also included assault, use of a firearm, and criminal possession of an unregistered weapon.

Russell Simmons, president of Def Jam Records, took him out of jail on bail, and they quickly recorded the album The Ruler’s Back, before he went to prison for a period of five years, two of them on murder charges in second grade, they were charged for the shooting, and three for problems with the Immigration Services derived from their residence in the United States.

In the documentary film The Show, Russell Simmons interviews Rick while incarcerated on Riker’s Island and recounts this part of his life.

“La Di Da Di”, “Mona Lisa” and “Children’s Story” are by far her best-known songs, having been covered almost word for word “La Di Da Di” in the 1993 Doggystyle album by Snoop Dogg. In addition, some lines of this same song have been used by multiple best-selling artists in a multitude of recordings.

Montell Jordan sampled “Children’s Story” for his 1995 hit “This Is How We Do It”, Black Star made a version of it on their debut album, and Everlast also covered it for their album Eat at Whitey’s. His third album, Behind Bars was released while he was in prison, and for this reason was relegated to sell in balances and reviews.

When he left prison in 1998, he decided to stay with Def Jam and on May 25, 1999 he released his fourth album, entitled The Art of Storytelling, generally considered the real continuation of his debut album in 1988. Storytelling was also a successful artistic reappearance that paired him with artists such as Nas, OutKast, Raekwon, and Snoop Dogg, among others.

In June 2002, after acting on a Caribbean Sea cruise, Rick was arrested by INS (US Immigration and Naturalization Service) for having re-entered the United States through Florida.

At that time he was informed that he was being deported because he was a British citizen, having been born in London and moving in his youth to the United States.

In 1996, a law had been passed by which foreigners convicted of serious crimes related to violence should be deported, a law that had been reinforced due to the strong security measures imposed in the country after the attacks of 11 December. September 2001, but they finally imprisoned him.

All of Rick’s appeals were rejected on an ongoing basis, but after 17 months in prison he was finally released on bail on November 7.

Rumors suggested that Rick planned to release a new album, “The Adventure Continues,” in 2007. However, in an interview for the XXL magazine, he denied that these rumors were true.

Rick is supposedly “waiting for the market to open to a mature [more] audience.”

In October 2006, the US Department of Homeland Security initiated new proceedings to deport Walters, transferring the case of the “Second Circuit Court of Appeals of the United States”, based in New York, to the most conservative “Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit of the United States”. The Court is based in Atlanta, Georgia, but the trial is expected to take place in Florida, where INS agents originally arrested Rick.

She has two children, Lateisha and Ricky, from two different mothers. He currently resides in the Bronx and lives with his son Ricky.
