Simon Phillips (London, United Kingdom, February 6, 1957) is a British drummer and outstanding session musician who laid the foundations of the drums in musical styles as diverse as heavy metal, rock progressive and jazz fusion. His versatility also allowed him to be the successor of the late drummer Jeff Porcaro of the band Toto, a group that he joined for 21 years and that combines different musical currents such as rock, pop, funk, blues, jazz and heavy metal.
The drummer introduced the combination of the double drum with fast rhythms in sixteenth-note, which came to define the heavy metal genre with Judas Priest.
