Sidney Patrick Crosby (born August 7, 1987 in Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia in Canada) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is the captain of Pittsburgh Penguins, where he plays in the position of central attacker.

Sidney Crosby’s Biography

Sidney Crosby started skating at three years of age, and started playing hockey through various children’s teams. With fourteen years he led with 106 goals and 111 assists to his team, the Dartmouth Subways, to the runner-up of the Air Canada Cup. His various performances made him enter the Shattuck-Saint Mary’s school in Minnesota, with whom he won the national championship of institutes in 2002-03.

In the year 2003-04 he was selected in the draft of the Junior hockey League majeur du Québec by the Rimouski Océanic. In his debut year he managed to be awarded as MVP of the year, due to his record of 54 goals and 81 assists in 59 games. Crosby came to be allowed to reject offers from other teams because he was not ready to make the leap to professional categories.He continued another year in Rimouski, improving his personal record with 66 goals and 102 assists in that season.

Crosby was selected as the first draft choice by the Pittsburgh Penguins, his first game, with the # 87 jersey, he played on October 5, 2005 against New Jersey Devils, and managed to make an assist. Mario Lemieux was the captain of the team until his retirement in 2006, and the direction of the Penguins decided to grant Crosby the position of second captain. Although the movement was criticized, Crosby responded with a record of assists (63) and total points (102) in his debut year, which until then had Lemieux. Even so it did not win the Calder Memorial Trophy, since it coincided with the debut of another star: Alexander Ovechkin.

In 2006, he finished a season with 36 goals and a record of 84 assists that earned him the Art Ross Trophy. A year later the Penguins offered him the captaincy of the club, and got three prizes in a row: the Art Ross, Hart Memorial Trophy and the Lester B. Pearson Trophy being voted by their own teammates. Thanks to that, Crosby renewed his contract with the franchise worth 43.5 million dollars for five years. After passing a section of the 2008 season under an injury, he again exceeded in 2009 the barrier of 100 points. That same year he won the Stanley Cup with his team.

At the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Crosby scored the goal with which Canada won the gold medal.
