Daniel Osvaldo Scioli (Buenos Aires, Argentina, January 13, 1957) is a politician, exmotonaut, licensed in Commercialization and Argentine businessman, current national deputy and vice president of the Justicialist Party, who held the positions of vice president of the Argentine Nation and governor of the province of Buenos Aires.

In the 1980s and 1990s, he was an outstanding motonaut. After being eight times world champion and withdrawing from sport, he was invited to the Justicialist Party by Carlos Menem, appearing in the 1997 elections as a candidate for national deputy for the City of Buenos Aires and obtaining a bank. Then he also held the positions of Secretary of Sports and Secretary of Tourism of the Nation between 2001 and 2003. He was vice president of Argentina in the period 2003-2007 and governor of the province of Buenos Aires in the period 2007-2015.

He was a candidate for president of the Argentine Nation for the Front for Victory for the elections of 2015, accompanied by Carlos Zannini as a candidate for vice president.In the primary elections of that year he won the first place, with a 38, 67 % of valid votes In the presidential elections of October 25, he obtained 37 % of the 34% of Mauricio Macri, both going to the second round, where Macri defeated the ruling party with 51.3% over 48%, 6 % obtained by Scioli.

Scioli’s Biography

First years

Scioli was born on January 13, 1957 in the neighborhood of Villa Crespo, in the City of Buenos Aires. He grew up with his parents, Esther Méndez (1931-1999) and José Osvaldo Scioli (1928-2002), and his brothers José and Nicolás Scioli.

Raised in a high class family, the Scioli brothers had direct media contact since childhood. His father, José Scioli, was the owner by inheritance of the appliance chain “Casa Scioli”, with which his family acquired important profits and he owned Canal 9 during the 70s and 80s, although he later went through the nationalization of the channels headed by President Isabel Perón and returned to control of the station with Raúl Alfonsín in the return of democracy.

In 1975, his brother José was kidnapped by an armed group and Daniel Scioli, then 18 years old, had to fulfill the role of negotiator with the captors the eventual release of his brother. José was released in exchange for a cash bailout by his father.

Scioli completed his primary studies at the Ward School of Villa Sarmiento in Buenos Aires and his secondary studies at the Carlos Pellegrini School of Commerce of the University of Buenos Aires. Later he studied marketing at the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa, leaving the career later.

In 2015, he resumed his studies at the same university, receiving a degree in Marketing on October 5 after completing the final subjects he had left and presenting his final thesis.

Sports race

Years before entering politics, Scioli developed a successful sports career. He dedicated himself to motonautics and participated in several competitions, being the winner of these. In the mid-1980s, he began his career in motorboats with his boat “Semillita XIX”.

In 1986 he started competing in motorboat racing. It was climbing categories to obtain the world subchampionship of the class 6 liters offshore. In 1987, he joined the Italian team of nautical engineer and builder Fabio Buzzi.

On December 4, 1989, while running the second stage of the test of the thousand kilometers of the Delta in the Paraná River, the boat in which Scioli and his co-pilot Luca Nicolini went hit with a wave generated by an oil tanker at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, at the height of Ramallo. The boat overturned and the pilots were fired, hitting Scioli with the propeller and losing his right arm. He returned to the activity in 1990, in the Venice-Monte Carlo race and came to conquer more motorboat championships in different categories: class II in Mar del Plata (1992), Superboat (1994), Production A and Superboat (1995), Sportman B and Superboat (1996).

In 1992, the duo Daniel Scioli-Luca Nicolini obtains Offshore class 2. During 1993, the Organizing Committee of the Offshore One Spanish Grand Prize, announced the presence of Scioli as Race Commissioner of the competition held in the waters of the Bay of Marbella.

In 1994, Scioli won the first test of the American Superboat Championship, a race in the waters of the Mar del Plata coast. He then competed in four other races for the American Championship: in Miami, Sarasota, New York and the Bahamas; and between November 3 and 7 he defended the world title.

With its launch La Gran Argentina, it was awarded the World Championship of offshore of the Class III-6 liters, in the waters of the Río de la Plata, thus closing with eleven years of motor racing. In 1997 Scioli retired from his motor racing career.

The Ñata

In 2010, Governor Scioli created his own club, Villa La Ñata Sporting Club, which competes in the first division of the AFA futsal championships.

Business career

Parallel to his sports career, Scioli dedicated himself to business: in 1989 he was hired by the Swedish company Electrolux, making the company set up in Buenos Aires in 1994, being between that year and 1997 director of Electrolux Argentina.

She has also been a member of the board of the family company Casa Scioli, which suffered bankruptcy under her direction.

Family

In 1986 he met the model Karina Rabolini, with whom he married on December 10, 1991 for civil, being the religious ceremony in the Parish San Ignacio on December 12 of the same year. They divorced in the year 1998, but in 2001 they returned to form a couple. Karina Rabolini has participated in numerous public acts fulfilling the functions of the wife of the vice president and then first lady of Buenos Aires as well as presiding over the Banco Provincia Foundation during the administration of Daniel Scioli as Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires .

Scioli has a daughter, Lorena Scioli, born in 1978 and the fruit of her relationship with Margarita Renteria Beltrán who grew up with her mother in the city of Rosario. Daniel Scioli recognized her as a daughter in 1993 after Lorena’s mother won a trial by filiation.

Scioli is the grandfather of Camila and Felipe, sons of their daughter Lorena and Eladio González Rodríguez, born in 2013 and 2017 respectively.

On May 10, 2017, he announced that along with model Gisela Berger they are expecting a child.
