Sandrine Bonnaire (Gannat, May 31, 1967) is an actress and director of French cinema. He has participated in films of the most important directors of his country, such as Agnès Varda, Jacques Rivette, Claude Chabrol, Maurice Pialat, André Téchiné or Patrice Leconte.

He was born into a working class family in the French region of Auvergne. It was the seventh of eleven brothers. His first appearances in the cinema were in 1982, when he participated as an extra in La Boum 2, directed by Claude Pinoteau, and in the comedy Les Sous-doués en vacances, by Claude Zidi.

His great revelation came a year later, 1983, when Maurice Pialat offered him the starring role of Our Loves. From then on, the name of Sandrine Bonnaire is associated with French quality cinema. His career has been very prestigious, he has received numerous awards and has also participated in films outside his country.

Bonnaire has two daughters, a fruit of his relationship with William Hurt (with whom he coincided in 1991 with the shooting of Luis Puenzo’s plague) and his husband’s second (he married in 2003), screenwriter Guillaume Laurant.
