Rusty Wallace Short Bio

Russell William Wallace Jr. , better known as Rusty Wallace (August 14, 1956, Arnold, Missouri, United States), is a speed racing driver. , team owner and American journalist. He was champion of the NASCAR Cup in 1989, runner-up in 1988 and 1993, third in 1994, fourth in 1998 and fifth in 1987 and 1995.

Wallace scored 55 victories in NASCAR Cup races, with Charlotte’s 600 Miles, but none at Daytona, Talladega, Indianapolis or Darlington. His specialties were the short ovals, where he accumulated 34 wins, and the mixed circuits, where he won twice in each one (Riverside, Sears Point and Watkins Glen).

The driver also won the 1989 NASCAR Star Race and the 1998 Daytona Shootout. He also won four races and a championship at the International Race of Champions.

Wallace owned his own NASCAR Busch Series team from 1985 to 1992, which then returned to compete in the renowned NASCAR Nationwide Series from 2004 to 2011. He was a team driver, as were his brothers Mike Wallace and Kenny. Wallace and his son Steve Wallace. His niece Chrissy Wallace is also a stock car driver. Iowa Speedway is an oval in whose design Wallace participated and of which he is a member.

From 2006 to 2014, Wallace is an ESPN journalist for the NASCAR and IndyCar Series broadcasts, and presenter of the NASCAR Angels television program. He appears briefly in the 1990 film Days of Thunder acting of himself.
