Ruslana Stepánivna Lyzhychko , in Ukrainian, Руслана Степанівна Лижичко, Ruslana Stepánivna Lyžyčko, (Lviv, May 24, 1973) is a Ukrainian artist, winner of the World Music Award and the Eurovision Song Contest. 2004.

One of the most respected and successful artists in Ukraine, Ruslana is a singer, dancer, producer, composer, director of the Symphony Orchestra and pianist. Write, compose and produce their own songs and video clips. He won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 with the song “Wild Dances” after achieving 280 points, which he received from 34 of the 35 countries participating in the contest (Switzerland was the only country that did not vote). Seven years later, she was the spokesperson for the Ukrainian votes at Eurovision 2011 held in Düsseldorf.

Ruslana was the first artist to emerge from the former Soviet Union who officially received the platinum album for her album Dyki Tantsi (2003), selling more than 170,000 copies in the first hundred days after its release, even without a promotional tour This album is the best-selling album in Ukrainian to date, along with its English version, of which it sold more than 800,000 copies exclusively in Ukraine.In 2004 it was one of the 15 best artists in a ranking performed in Belgium with her singles “Wild Dances” and “Dance with the Wolves.” Ruslana was named the most popular Ukrainian in Belgium, the sexiest girl in Greece, the most influential public figure in Ukraine and was the first foreign person who received the award from the Federation of Journalists of Turkey.

In 2008 she appeared in the videogame Grand Theft Auto IV, where the Ukrainian artist is the dj of the station Vladivostok FM. On the set list of the station you can listen to his hit “Wild Dances”. The worldwide success of the video game -whose sales entered the Guinness Book of Records- boosted the success of the Ukrainian artist, who signed an important contract, in that same year, with Warner Music for the worldwide launch of her second international album called Wild Energy.

Ruslana’s career has also been characterized by its political and social commitment to his country. The singer showed her public and active support for the democratic processes that took place in autumn 2004 in Ukraine known as the Orange Revolution, to which she dedicated her single “Dance with the Wolves”. He declared his support for Viktor Yushchenko during the Ukrainian presidential election that year and Yulia Tymoshenko in 2010. He also became a member of the Ukrainian Parliament for the Our Ukraine party. Ruslana has been named Goodwill Ambassador of Ukraine by UNICEF and has collaborated on numerous projects about the environment and, especially, in favor of the victims of the Chernobyl accident.

Ruslana Stepánivna Lyzhychko (in Ukrainian, Руслана Степанівна Лижичко) was born on May 24, 1973 in Lviv, city belonging, at that time, to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. He began studying at 4 years of age and has sung in different bands. After 10 years in high school, in the scientific area, he entered the State Music Academy of L’viv, where he graduated as a pianist and director of the Symphony Orchestra in 1995.
