Rubén Aguirre Fuentes (Saltillo, Coahuila, June 15, 1934-Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, June 17, 2016), best known in the 70’s with the nickname of El Shory , was an actor, comedian and Mexican agronomist, best known for playing the popular character of Professor Jirafales in the Mexican humor series El Chavo del 8 (1971-1992).

Ruben Aguirre’s Biography

He was born in the Santa Anita neighborhood of the city of Saltillo (Coahuila). He started doing television in Monterrey, where he emigrated early to Mexico City, brought by the Cuban producer Sergio Peña and his wife Kippy Casado. He obtained the title of agronomist in the Superior School of Agriculture “Hermanos Escobar” in Ciudad Juárez (Chihuahua). He married in 1960 and had 7 children.

Rubén Aguirre was an executive of Televisión Independiente de México, where he made demos or openings to see who was left with the program after Jorge Gutiérrez Zamora left the band; this is how he met Roberto Gómez Bolaños (Chespirito), with whom he became friends, performing programs such as Los supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada, Chespirotadas (1968-1971), where he played the character of Professor Jirafales and El Ciudadano Gómez, among others. < /p>

He also acted in the Chapulín Colorado (1970-1992), where he gave life to the character of the fierce gangster Rufino Rufián or El Shory. He also played many other characters created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños, among them Lucas Tañeda, the faithful lunatic companion of Chaparrón Bonaparte in Los Chifladitos (1971 and 1980-1995) and Sergeant Refugio Pazguato in Los Caquitos (1980-1995) and also as Don Albertano Dueñas in the soap opera Soñadoras (1998-1999). In 2000 he was the narrator of the Atínale al Precio program, a contest that was presented by Marco Antonio Regil, and was replaced months later by Héctor Sandarti until the end of December 2000.

In his last years in active work he worked as a producer, and directed his own circus, with which he toured several countries in Latin America. After 46 years of artistic career, he announced his retirement in 2013.

In August 2014, Aguirre was hospitalized in an emergency at the Mexican Social Security Institute in Mexico City, but after a few days he was discharged.

Likewise, it was presented in various Sonoran circuses that seemed like “The Circus of Professor Jirafales” being the last one in which the Anderson circus (from Navojoa) appeared in 2008 in the city of Hermosillo, from where He retired because of the strong pain that seemed to be the result of the accident in Mexico City a short time ago.
