Rodd Redwing (August 24, 1904 – May 29, 1971) was an American film and television actor of the Chickasaw ethnic group, known for being the fastest revolver in the field of film.
Rodd Redwing’s Biography
Born in New York City, and a member of the Chickasaw Indian tribe, Redwing was one of Hollywood’s leading instructors in the use of firearms, knives, tomahawk, and whips. After arriving at the cinema working for Cecil B. DeMille in the 1931 film The Squaw Man, he was the actor’s coach of the likes of Alan Ladd, Ronald W. Reagan, Burt Lancaster, Glenn Ford, Richard Widmark, Anthony Quinn, Charlton Heston , Dean Martin and Fred MacMurray, to whom he gave instruction on the use of firearms.
In addition, between 1951 and 1967 he starred in more than a dozen television programs, including one as a guest star in the CBS contest What’s My Line ?. Also for television, in eight episodes of the ABC / Desilu western series The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, Redwing played “Mr. Brother”, a cheyenne friend and informant of Wyatt Earp (Hugh O’Brian). p>
Rodd Redwing died in 1971, at 66 years of age, after performing at The Red Sun. He suffered an acute myocardial infarction aboard a plane with which he returned from Spain, dying 35 minutes later, just before landing in Los Angeles, California. His remains were incinerated, and the ashes deposited in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
