Rod Blagojevich’s Biography
Born as Milorad Blagojević (in Serbian Cyrillic alphabet: Милорад Благојевић), “Rod” (as he is best known), grew up in the northwest part of Chicago as the second of two brothers. His father, Radisav, was a steel worker who immigrated from the city of Kragujevac, Serbia (then Yugoslavia). His mother, Mila Govedarica, was a Serb native of Gacko, Bosnia Herzegovina (then part of Yugoslavia), whose parents immigrated to the United States in 1947. Rod Blagojevich spent much of his childhood working to cope with the debts of the family. He was a shoeshine boy and pizza delivery man before working in a meat processing plant. In order to pay for college expenses, Blagojevich worked as a dishwasher for the construction company of the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline.

Anne was born a few months after her father was sworn in as governor. Her sister-in-law is Deb Mell, a well-known LGBT rights activist who in 2008 was presented by the Democratic party to the Illinois House of Representatives election. The federal prosecutors obtained the celebration of a second trial on these charges that had not reached a verdict, although they were eventually reduced to twenty. On June 27, 2011, after ten days of deliberations, the jury of the second trial issued a guilty verdict for seventeen of the twenty charges, most of them related to the attempt to sell the Senate seat vacated by the President Obama and the most serious of which can lead to Blagojevich a prison sentence of up to twenty years.
