Frans Robert Jan van der Hoek (No. Laren, The Netherlands, September 20, 1950), known as Roberto Vander , is a Dutch actor and singer who He has developed his artistic career in Latin America, mainly in Chile and Mexico.
Roberto Vander’s Biography
Despite being born in the Netherlands, Vander grew up in Uruguay, where he lived much of his childhood and youth. He studied at the Stella Maris School and lived in the neighborhood of Barra de Carrasco Canelones and from where he emigrated to several other countries in Latin America such as Argentina, Brazil, Peru or Mexico, to finally settle in Chile. In 1980 he settled in Mexico after being a guest at the popular music show Siempre en domingo with Raúl Velasco, where he presented his second album as a singer.
He toured for three years and is offered a role in the telenovela Cuna de lobos, which would become one of Televisa’s biggest hits. He subsequently starred in Victoria and The Price of Fame. In the telenovela Senda de gloria plays a villain of Anglo-Dutch origin, which gives him the chance to speak English and Dutch.
The success of Senda de Gloria allowed him to obtain the lead role in the Chilean telenovela Semidiós produced by Canal 13, where he also sang “Como un águila”, the central theme of this one. Bravo made the same channel and returned to Mexico one year after participating in a new version of Simplemente María and in La pícara soñadora, both great successes in Latin America, Europe, Turkey and Russia. Between 1992 and 1993 he returned to Chile and to Channel 13 to record the telenovelas Easy to Love and Double Play. In 1994 he returned to Mexico and crossed paths.
In 1995 he returned to Chile to make two telenovelas and created his own company, Roberto Vander Prod., to facilitate access to the Chilean media of actresses like Alicia Machado.
In 1997 he participated in a telenovela with Televisa, Sin ti, and the following year he made Enséñame a querer with Venevisión, one of the existing television channels in Venezuela.
He was interviewed by the Dutch network NCRV in February 1999 in a 25 minute presentation from his home in Chile. This interview was broadcast on May 11 of that same year, through the Nederland 1 network. The same year he did Por tu amor en Mexico (year 2000), he did Milagros in Peru. In 2002 and 2003, he made two telenovelas for Televisa and was awarded the Azteca de Oro as best actor, for his role in Salomé by the Association of Mexican Radio and Television Journalists. She made the new version of Rubí in 2004. This telenovela was considered the best of the year and was awarded the Sol de Oro for her career. For his role in this production, he was nominated for TVyNovelas Award as “Best Actor”.
Immediately after, he participated in the telenovela Al diablo con los guapos, where he played the real father of the protagonist. Then he recorded in Miami Pecadora and, in Colombia, Salvador de mujeres. On Telemundo he participated in the telenovela Los herederos del Monte, and in 2014 he returned to Televisa in the antagonistic role of the telenovela Hasta el fin del mundo as a mafioso, drug dealer and businessman.
