Roberto Cacciapaglia (Milan, 1953) is an Italian composer and musician. He has been a protagonist in the music scene, an international innovator in the use of the application of new technologies in music. His music from the seventies to the present has been occupied in several subjects, from the classic to the electronic experimentation, turning in the sense of an “art without borders and beyond the divisions”.
He graduated in musical composition at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory in Milan. He also studied conducting and electronic music. In his early years he worked in the study of phonology at the RAI, and has worked with the CNR of Pisa studying sounds with modern techniques.
He started working as a session musician, joined Franco Battiato’s group and was the first Sicilian singer-songwriter on the album. In 1974 he released his first album Sonanze, published by Rolf Ulrich Kaiser, director of the office of the German label High Representative. Consonancias was an ambitious work for those years, based on the orchestra, choir and electronic music, it uses a language that approaches the German cosmic music. With this work he gets in touch with other active groups in the field of German experimental music such as: Popol Vuh, Tangerine Dream, Wallestein, Darks Dieter.
For a long time he deals with spiritual music and sacred dance as the most important powers of sound research. Music is, in fact, inspired by these experiences and not based on rules, but by all the states of human emotion. In his works he often uses the sacred texts taken from Ecclesiastes, the Bible, the Vedas and the Upanishads, being able to compose a work that departs much from everything material.
In the albums “Encuentros con el alma” (2005) and “Cuarto Tiempo” (2007) Roberto Cacciapaglia creates a new genre of music between classical and electronic music, the synthesis of complex and eclectic artistic activity. In 2010 his album Ten Directions, is the first published by Vistazo, owned by Cacciapaglia himself, and distributed in Italy by Sony Music. His songs are performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London.
