Son of a writer and a construction contractor, he attended secondary school at Lamar High School. Later, he decided to dedicate himself to acting, first on television, a medium in which he regularly appears in numerous films shot especially for the small screen.
Debuts in the cinema with The Invisible Strangler. The following year it rolls Airport 77, one of the continuations of the famous film of catastrophes, and in which it shares distribution, among others, with myths of Hollywood like Jack Lemmon, James Stewart and Olivia de Havilland. A year later, in 1978, Damien rolls: Omen II, continuation of the hit horror film The Prophecy.
Back on television, he gets the role that casts him to fame: that of the kind and long-suffering Chase Gioberti, nephew of the evil Angela Channing (Jane Wyman) in one of the most popular soap operas (soap operas) of the years Eighty: Falcon Crest. Foxworth plays the character between 1981 and 1987, when he decides to leave the series.
He later went on stage on Broadway to play Candida (1993), by George Bernard Shaw and starred in the series Six Feet Under between 2001 and 2003 in the role of Bernard Chenowith.
He was for years a sentimental partner of Elizabeth Montgomery, protagonist of Bewitched, with whom he finally got married in 1993.
