Robert Bauval is an engineer and writer, born on March 5, 1948 in Alexandria, Egypt, of parents of Belgian origin. He was educated in the school for English boys The school of Alexandria, in Egypt, and in the Franciscan College in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom.
His family was expelled from Egypt during the government of Gamal Abdel Nasser. He has spent most of his time living and residing in other countries of the Middle East and Africa.
Civil engineer, from very young he became interested in Egyptology and in the 1980s he started an investigation about the Pyramids of Egypt that tried to combine astronomy and history. He has published numerous articles on this subject and several of his findings have been presented at the British Museum.
Since 1979 it has been dedicated to the study of the meaning of the pyramids. Interested not so much in the how, but in the why they were built, and what could have been the origin of the majestic and imposing presence in the desert of the Pyramids, of its complex structure, its size and its vocation of eternity. Over the years he joined Adrian Gilbert and the combination of his efforts resulted in the published and documented research of the conclusions that are put forth, entitled The Orion Mystery (Unlocking the Secrets of the Pyramids) published in 1994, about the correlation of the pyramidal constructions of Ancient Egypt with respect to stellar observation.
The mystery of Orion is his first book, in which he explains his theory on the Orion Correlation with respect to its possible astronomical influence on the location of the Pyramids in the desert of Giza.
