Rob Reiner (New York, United States, March 6, 1947) is an American actor, film director, writer and political activist. It reached the fame thanks to its interpretation of the personage Michael Stivic in the comedy All in the Family. His performance in that role was honored with two Emmy Awards in the 1970s. He has been nominated several times for the Directors of the United States Guild Awards and for the Golden Globes in the Best Direction category.

First years

He was born in a Jewish family, on March 6, 1947, in the county of Bronx, New York. Son of actor and film director Carl Reiner and actress Estelle Reiner, he lived in New Rochelle, New York, at number 48 Bonnie Meadow. This address bears resemblance to the fictional address of the Petries family of the series The Dick Van Dyke Show that was created by his father in the 1960s and which only changes to the number that is 148. In his last film Flipped, the story unfolds on the corner of Bonnie Meadow and Renfrew Street.

At the age of thirteen he moved with his family to California. He studied at Beverly Hills High School where he was a partner of Richard Dreyfuss, Bonnie Franklin and Albert Brooks. After graduation he entered the University of California in Los Angeles and enrolled in the film career. He has two brothers, Annie Reiner -poetisa, scriptwriter and writer- and Lucas Reiner -painter, actor and director-.


Reiner began his film career as a screenwriter for the comedy show The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour from 1968-69. After a work break, he was selected to play the role of Michael Stivic – a liberal of the protagonist Archie Bunker – in the series All in the Family, which aired in the 1970s and became the most watched television show American between 1971 and 1979. The nickname acquired in the series, “Meathead”, became a reference of American popular culture.

Among his most renowned films are “The Sure Thing” (1985), “Count Me” (1986), “The Princess Bride” (1987), “When Harry Met Sally” (1989), “Misery” ( 1990) and “Some good men” (1992).

In an episode of the South Park series entitled “Butt Out,” which deals with the campaign against smoking, he was parodied, and his character was depicted as selfish, with a bad temper, obese and always with In the course of the episode, his character fights against smoking and while exhibiting the potential damage caused by the cigarette he has a greater desire to eat, which leads him to a state of nervousness very close to that give him a heart attack.

He was married to the actress Penny Marshall from whom he divorced, and is currently married to actress Michele Singer with whom he has 3 children.
