Richard Rose

Richard Rose (Benwood, March 14, 1917 – July 6, 2005) was a mystic, esotericist, philosopher, writer, poet, and researcher of American paranormal phenomena, and he published several books and gave lectures at universities and other institutions throughout his country during the seventies and eighties.

Rose developed a system that he described as “retreat from untruth”, which involved the examination of personal belief systems and lifestyles. In this system, what one discovers as false is discarded on the basis of a case-by-case analysis. He believed that an Absolute Truth exists and can be found by a person with sufficient dedication and effort, and recommended a skeptical approach.

He studied human psychology, weaknesses and human potentials, and then wrote about challenges to psychology, psychiatry, religion, academia, the legal system and the New Age movement. His criticisms include issues of group thinking, dogmatism, financial issues, attractions based on emotionality, and dependence and trust in questionable authorities.
