Raymond Anthony “Ray” Lewis, Jr. (Bartow, Florida, May 15, 1975) is a former American football player who occupied the position of linebacker and who played in the rows of the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL).

Lewis has participated in thirteen Pro Bowls and has been named ten times All-Pro -7 as First Team and 3 as Second. He also won the Best Defensive Player of the Year award in the 2000-01 and 2003-04 seasons. He won two rings in his career; in Super Bowl XXXV (2001) and Super Bowl XLVII (2013), marking his retirement from the NFL.

Ray Lewis’s Biography

He was born in Bartow, Fla. He played as a linebacker at Kathleen High School in Lakeland, where he was All-American. There he also practiced collegiate fighting, standing out remarkably.


After his time at the institute, Lewis decided to join the University of Miami, where he played for the Hurricanes. As a freshman, he quickly exploited his qualities and became the owner of the last five games. He recorded a total of 81 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss of yards and four passes defensed, which earned him to be named to the All-American team in first year.

In his second season as a sophomore, Lewis also played a big role, leading the Big East Conference with 152 tackles and also contributed nine tackles for loss of yards, two sacks and one interception, finishing sixth in the polls of both journalists and of coaches in terms of better defender.

His junior season was even more successful, as he was again named to the All-American and All-Big East teams, and finished as the Butkus Award runner-up to the best college football linebacker. He finished the season with 160 tackles – the second largest record in the history of the University of Miami; only behind Ed Weisacosky (164 in 1965) -. Lewis also totaled eight tackles for loss of yards, two sacks, two interceptions, a forced fumble, four passes defensed and a touchdown.

After the 1995 season, Lewis entered the NFL draft. In the 1996 draft he was selected in the first round (26th place) by the Baltimore Ravens. In 2004 he graduated in Arts and Science from the University of Maryland.
