Peter Vanderkaay (born February 12, 1984) is an American freestyle swimmer. Vanderkaay and his teammate Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Klete Keller won the gold medal in the 4×200 freestyle at the 2004 Athens Olympics and set a record in the same category at the 2007 World Swimming Championships in Melbourne . Vanderkaay qualified for the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games by winning a gold medal in the freestyle 4 × 200 meters.
Peter Vanderkaay’s Biography
Vanderkaay is originally from Rochester Hills, Michigan and graduated from Rochester Adams High School. Vanderkaay has three brothers, in which all are swimmers. His older brother Christian Vanderkaay swam for the University of Michigan, and qualified for the 2008 Olympic tests in the 100 meters back. His younger brother Alex Vanderkaay also qualified for the 2008 Olympic tests in the 400 meters individual relay and 200 meters butterfly. His third and younger brother Dane Vanderkaay also qualified for the 2008 Olympic tests in the 400 meters freestyle. In that same year he got his first individual success by beating Michael Phelps in the US national championships in the 400 meters freestyle. In Olympic Games of Beijing 2008 it obtained his first Olympic medal in individual category when obtaining the bronze in the test of 200 free meters, in addition to this Vanderkaay also obtained the gold in the 4×200 free meters, in this test it lowered for the first time of the 7 minutes in a 4×200 libes. In 2012 he was left out of the US team for the free 4×200 test for the London 2012 Olympic Games, but individually he won the bronze medal in the 400 meter freestyle.
