John Peter Sarsgaard (born March 7, 1971 in Belleville) is an American actor.
Peter Sargaard was born on March 7, 1971 in Belleville, Illinois. Although he did not initially consider becoming an actor, during his stay at Washington University in San Luis, where he graduated in History and Literature, he founded the theater group Mama’s Pot Roast.
His new facet of interpréte takes him to New York, where he takes classes in the Actor’s Studio. In the Big Apple, the theater plays Kingdom of Earth (by John Cameron Mitchel) and Laura Dennis on Broadway.
In 1995 Tim Robbins offers him his first film opportunity in Death Penalty, in which he plays a man murdered by Matthew Poncellet (Sean Penn). Three years later he participates in The Man in the Iron Mask as Roul, the son of the musketeer Athos (John Malkovich) killed in a battle because King Louis XIV (Leonardo DiCaprio) has arranged for it to be so.
In 1999 he jumps to fame with Boys Do not Cry, in which he gets into the skin of a young homophobe. The repercussion of the film – in good measure for the Oscar obtained by Hilary Swank – is translated in an increase of offers, of which K-19: The Widowmaker is the best known.
In 2003, while initiating a romantic relationship with Maggie Gyllenhaal, she obtains the co-starring role of The Price of Truth, where she plays Chuck, the editor of a newspaper that discovers that one of his employees, Stephen Glass (Hayden) Christensen), invents the news. Several associations of critics proclaim him the best supporting actor of the year while obtaining a candidacy for the Golden Globes. That year he joins with his partner to the mobilizations against the Iraq War and the Bush administration. p>
His international consecration takes place in 2004 with two films. The first, Something in common, is a small production that is a song to life after overcoming traumatic experiences in a degraded environment. In the second, Kinsey, plays Clyde, an assistant to Alfred Kinsey (Liam Neeson) with no qualms about having sex with both his teacher and his wife (Laura Linney), but he can not stand a partner (Timothy Hutton) sleep with your wife Thanks to this denunciation of the double moral, Peter Saargard obtains several awards.
Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal at the New York premiere of An Education in October 2009.
Previous recognitions allow him to be the casting partner of Jodie Foster and Kate Hudson, respectively, in Flight Plan: Disappeared and The Key of Evil, whose filming he combines with more modest films on budget with the only commercial claim of the participation of interpreters such as Campbell Scott and Patricia Clarkson.
After these shootings, Saargard participates in Jarhead (Sam Mendes) with his friend and brother of his girlfriend Jake Gyllenhaal. In the film, set in the Gulf War, plays Troy, a criminal who clears his background to try to start a life in the army.
In 2009, he toured Small Tragedy in the UK and co-starred in the horror film The Orphan, in which a young couple devastated by the loss of their son decided to adopt a girl. That same year he married Maggie Gyllenhall.
