Paul Feig (September 17, 1962; Royal Oak, Michigan, United States) is an American director, screenwriter and producer of film and television. Candidate for four Emmy Awards, known for directing the comedy Bridesmaids (2011), he has also directed, written and produced some episodes of the television series The Office between 2008 and 2009; and Freaks and Geeks between 1999 and 2000.
Paul Feig was born on September 17, 1962 in Roayl Oak, Michigan, United States and grew up in Mt. Clemens. He graduated in 1980 from Chippewa Valley High School. He worked as a tour guide in Universal Studios. He graduated from the USC School of Cinema – Television in 1984. In 2001, he married Laurie Karon.
Paul Feig’s acting career began in 1986 on the television series The Facts of Life in which he played Ron in one episode. Later between 1988 and 1989 he gave life to Norman Bryant in Dirty Dancing, television fiction based on the film with the same title starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray. In the following years he participated in numerous series such as The Edge (1992), Roseanne (1993) or Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (1996), in the latter playing Mr. Eugene Pool, and in 1997 he also participated in a chapter of Ellen, series starring Ellen DeGeneres. He also appeared briefly and even uncredited in films such as Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994), Knocked Up (2007) or Bad Teacher (2011), in which Cameron Diaz appeared.
In the early 2000s he directed numerous episodes for television series such as Freaks and Geeks (2000), which he also produced and wrote and for which he received his first Emmy nomination, Arrested Development (2004) – starring Jason Bateman-, Weeds (2005), Rockefeller Plaza (2007) -starred by Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin-, Mad Men (2007), Nurse Jackie (2009) or The Office (2011), also working as producer in these two last productions, for which he received two nominations for the Emmy Awards.
In 2011 he directed the comedy Bridesmaids in which cast were Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne and Melissa McCarthy. The film was a blockbuster with 288 million dollars and received two Oscar nominations, in the categories of best supporting actress (for Melissa McCarthy) and best original script, and was a candidate in the BAFTA Awards at the same categories, and was nominated for the Golden Globes for best film – comedy or musical, Colin Covert defined it as “hilariously funny, an adrenalitic succession of slapstick gags and verbal hysteria”.
In 2013 she will direct the comedy Wish List, whose cast will be headed by Reese Witherspoon, and a detective comedy, The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.
In 2017 he made a cameo playing himself in the comedy 9JKL.
