Paul Gardner Allen (Seattle, January 21, 1953) is a businessman, investment business tycoon and American philanthropist. Next to Bill Gates is founder of the company Microsoft.

Paul Allen’s Biography

He was born in Seattle, Washington State. Allen attended Lakeside School, a private school located in Seattle, and became friends with Bill Gates, who was three years younger and shared a common enthusiasm for computers.

From the age of 14 he started to be a great computer enthusiast. Allen went to the Washington State University, although he left her at 2 years old to dedicate himself, along with Bill Gates, to writing commercial software for the new personal computers.

They founded Microsoft (initially “Micro-Soft”, the script was removed a year later) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1975, and they started selling a BASIC language interpreter. Allen was instrumental in a deal with Microsoft to buy an operating system called MS-DOS for $ 50,000. In this way, Microsoft was able to comply with its contract to supply the operating system for the new IBM PCs. It was the beginning of a remarkable and constant growth for the successful new company.

Allen was forced to resign from Microsoft in 1983 after having been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, which he overcame after many months of radiotherapy treatment and a bone marrow SDF transplant.

He returned to Microsoft in 1990, but by then Bill had already become the richest person in the world. At that time, he joined the company in a management position, and in the same year he created Vulcan Ventures, a venture capital fund specialized in cable and broadband services. Paul Allen participates or has participated in more than 140 companies, including Priceline, Dreamworks, GoNet, Oxygen and Metricom.

Among his expensive hobbies, Allen is a sports fan, so he paid $ 70 million in 1988 for the NBA Portland Trail Blazers, and more recently $ 200 million for the Seattle Seahawks (which won his first Super Bowl in the year 2014); He is currently one of the minority owners of the Major League Soccer team, the Seattle Sounders FC. He is also a lover of music, specifically Rock and Roll. He plays guitar, has a professional recording studio at home and has funded the Museum Experience Music Project and the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in Seattle. He is fond of the search for extraterrestrial life, and has founded several charitable organizations.

At the beginning of September 2000, Paul Allen decided to completely abandon Microsoft and all the positions he held. In an emotional statement, signed by Bill Gates himself, Allen’s contribution to the success of the company was recognized. In the future, he will act as a strategic advisor. That year, it sold 68 million shares, but still owns 138 million, which makes up the bulk of its wealth. On September 30, 2014, Microsoft introduced Windows 10, and advanced users who subscribed to the Insider program were available from that day. This new version of the operating system that came officially and free to users with genuine Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 license as well as Insiders on July 29, 2015, being the first version that seeks the unification of devices (desktop , laptops, smartphones, tablets and game consoles) under a common experience, which is expected to eliminate some problems that were presented with Windows 8.1.
