He is a televangelist of American fundamentalist Protestant ideology and founder of numerous organizations and corporations, including the American Center for Law and Justice and the powerful Christian Coalition. He is considered by many political observers as an influential spokesman for conservative Christians in the United States.
In 1980 he told his followers “I guarantee that at the end of 1982 the Last Judgment will fall on Earth”.
In 1988, Robertson sought the Republican nomination for the presidency of the United States, but left the race after grim results in the New Hampshire primary. During the last years, Robertson has been frequently criticized, especially by leftist Americans and religious liberals, for comments that have been considered intolerant and insensitive, as when he called the Islamic religion “a satanic sect” or when he said in his program The Club 700 about Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez: “I do not know anything about the murder doctrine, but if (Chávez) thinks we’re going to kill him, I think we should go ahead and do it, it’s much cheaper than starting a war.” On the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, he said that “thousands of those Haitian black slaves died because they made a pact with the devil to obtain their freedom” (referring to the word “freedom” to the Haitian Independence of France in 1804). They have heard rumors that they have black slaves in Africa in a diamond mine they own.
In his book “New World Order” he affirms that Jews, Masons and Illuminati conspire to achieve world domination.
In January 2010, members of the US government called his claim that the Haitian earthquake and its consequences were the result of a pact signed with the devil by the Haitians since independence.
On January 3, 2012, he publicly stated in the program of The 700 Club, that “God revealed to me who will be the next president of EE. UU., But it’s a secret, “he also prophesied that the United States will suffer an economic collapse.
