Ohio ( pronunciation in English: & nbsp; /oʊhaɪ.oʊ/ & nbsp; (listen) ) is one of the fifty states that, together with Washington DC, form the United States of America. Its capital and most populous city is Columbus.

It is located in the Midwest region of the country, the Northeast Center division, bounded on the northwest by Michigan, on the north by Lake Erie, on the east by Pennsylvania, on the south by the Ohio River that separates it from West Virginia (on the southeast ) and Kentucky (to the southwest), and to the west with Indiana. With 11,536,504 inhabitants in 2010 it is the seventh most populous state -behind California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois and Pennsylvania- and with 99.37 inhabitants / km², the tenth most densely populated, behind Pennsylvania, Florida, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Jersey. He was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1803, as the number 17 state.

Ohio is one of the main industrial centers of the country.In addition to the industry, its other important sources of income are finance, coal mining (which helped make Ohio one of the main industrial powers of the country) , agriculture and tourism.

The rapid industrialization of the state made several people native to the state stand out for their inventions and for their pioneering, Thomas Edison was born in Ohio and the Wright Brothers (known worldwide for being the first to fly on an airplane, although respect there are controversies) also grew here. Another world-famous Ohio native is Neil Armstrong, the first person to step on the Moon.
